X-Projects: Video Production on Concussion Education in Horse Racing
Dr SarahJane Cullen and colleagues of the Jockey Research Group in Waterford Institute of Technology in conjunction with The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board, University of Limerick and Dublin City University are constantly investigating strategies to improve jockey health, well-being and overall racing performance.
Horse racing is a high risk and dangerous sport, with concussions frequently occurring. Recent findings form our work show that under-reporting of suspected concussions are occurring in racing which has huge risks for optimal management and treatment.
We are looking for students who would be interested in helping us develop a concussion education video for the Irish horse racing industry.
The video would consist of jockeys, the Senior Medical officer and researchers. We would greatly appreciate any students interested in helping us develop this 5-10 minute video that will equip jockeys and the wider racing population with the necessary tools to encourage timely reporting and appropriate management of concussions to create a safer racing environment
