This is Part Two of a three-part video series on the reasons behind the Catholic Church’s teaching against contraception.
In this video, I explain the natural law reasoning behind the teaching. What is the natural law? (what rational beings must do to perfect their natures.) How easy is it to understand? (Yes!) Why does the Church rely on it if it’s not something revealed by God in the Bible?
Teaching
Catholic teaching on a range of topics.
How Can Birth Control Be Wrong? Part III
In Part 3, I give you five facts that explode the myth that the world is suffering a population explosion (in reality it’s a population implosion), and two analogies to help understand the moral difference between natural family planning (NFP) and contraception. All the content is drawn from my book The Contraception Deception: Catholic Teaching On Birth Control.
Purgatory’s Two Great Sufferings
Fr. Mark Goring discusses the state of Purgatory as outlined by mystic and doctor of the Catholic Church, St. Teresa of Avila. He draws on the differences of a soul being in heaven or undergoing a process of purgation, of perfection of the soul in Purgatory. He says that we should allow God to purify our souls through sanctifying grace in this life, as the scriptures say “nothing unclean can enter the kingdom of heaven” [Revelation 21:27]. Fr. Mark says it is a pity that so few even care about purgatory..
The Very First Fathers
We’re familiar with the apostles and the authors of the New Testament, but how many of us know the apostolic Fathers? They were the Christian leaders who followed immediately the age of the apostles, and many of them knew and interacted with Jesus’ original disciples. Who were they, why are they important to our Faith, and what startling revelations are contained in their writings? This talk is an excerpt from the 2019 Catholic Answers Annual Conference.
Catholic Morality 101
Our culture holds many different concepts of morality. In this episode, Bishop Barron and Brandon Vogt discuss three major theories–consequentialism, deontology/legalism, and virtue ethics–and how compatible each is with Catholicism.
Why God Chose You!
Friends, in a universe governed by God’s providence, there is no such thing as “dumb luck” or coincidence. Therefore, his election and his choosing is not arbitrary or exclusive. Rather, when God invites his people to mission, he is not calling them for their own sakes, but for the sake of the whole world.
Jesus Walks on Water
When Jesus walks on water, it is possibly the most famous of all of Jesus’ miracles. However, this theophany of Jesus walking on the water is often dismissed by some skeptics as Jesus walking on a sand bar. Moreover, often overlooked, is the way that Jesus responds to the disciples when Jesus walks on the water. What do Jesus’ words mean in the context of him walking on the water? And, also, what do Jesus’ words mean in the context of how they begin worshiping Jesus when he gets into the boat after?
Is Jesus the New Moses?
Scott Hahn has a new YouTube series! Dr. Hahn will be creating regular videos on a variety of topics—breaking down Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, to help bring further understanding to their significance. In today’s video, Dr. Hahn explains what typology is and how the evangelists deliberately present Jesus as a new Moses. We hope you’ll subscribe and click that notification bell so you don’t miss a video! Let us know in the comments what topics you’d like Dr. Hahn to cover!
Confession: Sins are Forgiven & Forgotten
Fr. Mark Goring discusses the joy, forgiveness, lack of fear and love, that a person can experience after having their confession heard. He recounts Jesus’ command to his apostles to forgive sins, and once forgiven, they are forgotten by God. Scripture says “..your sins I will remember no more” [Hebrews 8:12]. St. Paul says in Philippians ‘..forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal’ [Philippians 3:13-14]. God wants us to forget our sins and move on with life, towards our ultimate goal – union with him.
What the Early Church Believed About the Sacraments
If we jumped into a time machine, traveled back to the first centuries of the Church, and asked Christians what they believed about the seven sacraments, would we feel we were among Catholic brethren? Karlo says yes, and he shows, using the writings of the early Fathers, that their belief regarding the sacraments is the same belief the Catholic Church professes today.
Why Protestants Removed 7 Books From The Bible!!!
Hiiii everyone!! Protestants often accuse Catholics of ADDING books to the Bible. In today’s video, we explore this topic and I prove that it was actually the Protestants who REMOVED these Old Testament books! HORRIBLE!!
God’s Gift for You
Friends, from Genesis to Revelation, Scripture begins and ends on the principle of the primacy of grace. In the Christian religion, there is no such thing as “conditional love.” Rather, God gives freely, and it is our task to accept it. “All who are thirsty, come to the water!” And what is the water, but that which symbolizes divine life and ultimate joy?
