Despair Not, Good Soul

In the Biblical story of Tobias, we find two good people–Tobias and Sara–despairing. They did not despair of their friendship with God but in their friendship with their fellow men. Man is a social animal. Without the proper support from his fellow man, he loses his will to live. We are saved in the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ. We are not saved in isolation! There were others like Tobias and Sara–Job, St. Elias and Jeremias… What happened to cause this despair and what did they do to overcome it to fulfill the plan of God in a marvelous way such that we still admire them to this very day.
