Trust in Times of Trial
When times are bad, there is a great tendency to absorb into our own hearts and minds the negativity and anger and sadness that surround us. This is especially true when persons with these traits project their mean-spiritedness and fear on those near them. It can be very hard for a morally sensitive person not to feel in some strange way responsible for the state of things.
Chill! God’s in Charge!
In this short video, Fr. Mark Goring quotes from Proverbs Chapter 3:5 – ‘Trust in the Lord, with all your heart, and do not rely on your own intelligence”. We are not to cling to our own desires, insights or ways of doing or wanting things done. The Lord will do things in his own mysterious way. So, ‘chill, God is in charge’.
Bishop Barron on King, Aquinas, and our Nation’s Future
Friends, the political nests within the moral, which nests within the sacred. We know that there are social wrongs which need to be made right, but our civic engagement must have a spiritual and moral center, grounded in the ideas of Martin Luther King Jr. and Thomas Aquinas.
Those Who are Just Must be Kind

The Brown Scapular a Share in Our Lady’s Habit
St. John of the Cross writes, “Whenever God bestows favours he clothes them with … love” (Ascent bk II, ch 29.11). Love draws the beloved. Love attracts and seeks union. Our Lord draws those wearing the Scapular of Our Lady up the mountain to be His beloved disciples. Let’s take our Brown Scapular’s seriously, seeking always to wear them as an extension of Our Lady’s very own clothing… thus marking us out, defining us as her beloved children… called to stand with her at the foot of the cross on Mt. Calvary.
When God Speaks
Source: Bishop Robert Barron via YouTube When God Speaks — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon Friends, God continually brings into being, by his creative Word, the universe in its totality. We do not inhabit a chaos; we inhabit a cosmos. But that Word also became flesh and dwelt among us. And […]
Social Media and the Catholic Culture of Contempt
Friends, Catholics must stop tearing each other apart online. We should be outraged by those who send virulent comments to one another, preventing actually fruitful evangelical conversation. Calumny, the mean-spirited accusation of another person, is a violation of both charity and justice. Who could possibly blame a non-believer for thinking, “I don’t want any part of that group” if they see how Catholics engage each other on social media? Join me in standing against this.
Zechariah’s Vision — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon
Friends, the Old Testament prophet Zechariah said that there would be a new ruler like David, whose mission would be reconciliation and peace—not just for Israel, but for the whole world. Christ the King, the suffering servant of Mt. Calvary, now extends his arms to the ends of the earth, inviting all to participate in his victorious reign.
Courage, Courage, Courage Needed to Endure Passive Purgation
St. John of the Cross explains that we need two kinds of purgation to make it to the higher levels of holiness and ultimately heaven. He calls them active and passive purgation. Active purgation is what we are tryingto do in Lent… take up voluntary penances to overcome ourselves. But,truth be told, we are too weak, too slow and too small of soul in performing such penances… So, God provides the needed cleansing by subjecting us to passive purgation.
