Fr. Mark Goring says to stockpile food, but don’t break the bank, and buy things that you actually use. Maybe have a couple of weeks food in your store, just in case fresh produce does not become easy to purchase. Also, perhaps add some other necessities such as toiletries. He suggests that this may not be so much from the result of a second wave, but due to further government restrictions and ‘fear’.
In this ‘mini-homily’ Fr. Mark Goring recounts how St. Anthony of the Desert, struggled with trying to find the correct balance between the spiritual and temporal in his life. Tradition has it that an angel appeared to St. Anthony, and told him to ‘work a bit, pray a bit’ and that by doing this he would be saved. An insight to help us get the right balance in our own busy lives.
Fr. Mark Goring discusses the joy, forgiveness, lack of fear and love, that a person can experience after having their confession heard. He recounts Jesus’ command to his apostles to forgive sins, and once forgiven, they are forgotten by God. Scripture says “..your sins I will remember no more” [Hebrews 8:12]. St. Paul says in Philippians ‘..forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal’ [Philippians 3:13-14]. God wants us to forget our sins and move on with life, towards our ultimate goal – union with him.
In this video Fr. Mark Goring talks about how God reveals Himself in the Eucharist, and wants all to come to him for salvation. This invitation is sent out to the whole world, not as one of many options, but as the only means to salvation.
In this short video, Fr. Mark Goring quotes from Proverbs Chapter 3:5 – ‘Trust in the Lord, with all your heart, and do not rely on your own intelligence”. We are not to cling to our own desires, insights or ways of doing or wanting things done. The Lord will do things in his own mysterious way. So, ‘chill, God is in charge’.
Fr. Mark Goring reminds us all that despite all the chaos that is going on all around us, the most important thing we can do, is to develop our relationship with the Lord.

Fr. Mark Goring, CC for some time has been sharing his sense that the ‘Illumination of Conscience’ or ‘The Warning’ as it is alternatively called, may well happen in 2020. He feels that it will be especially applicable to young men. He also recommends an animated film called ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’, as a “must see” film for everyone, but especially young men.
