Editor’s Comment: please note the notion of an ‘illumination of conscience’ was spoken of by various saints including St. Faustina Kowalska and St. Padre Pio, among others. Both were approved of by the Catholic Church as being private revelation. 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 states “do not despise prophesying, but test everything, hold fast what is good”. So, while private revelation is worthy of consideration, as God can and does speak through His prophets, it is not necessary for salvation. Only the official teaching of the Catholic Church, which is public revelation is required to be believed for salvation.
