The parable of the mustard seed and the mulberry tree have Jesus presenting 2 seemingly ridiculous scenarios: if your faith is small (rather than large) like a mustard seed then you can uproot a tree with a massive root system (effectively impossible) and plant it in the sea (where trees don’t grow). And, yet these are the words from Jesus, as absurd as they sound.
This parable of the mustard seed and mulberry tree is like Jesus’ other parables where he gives a twist to the parable to catch the audience’s attention; something unexpected is being told to us in the parable of the mustard seed and mulberry tree in order to emphasize a reality that wouldn’t have been necessarily understood in every day life: Namely, faith can accomplish what is impossible.
